Branding and Identity
Project 1 Trademark Redesign
This Project was to take a present-day city trademark and redesign it for a new look. My grandparents live in the small town of Nanty Glo, Pennsylvania and it has a history in coal mining. The center shape is the Pennsylvania Keystone symbol. The pickaxes are the loots that were first used in the early days of mining coal. The typeface on banner is to represent an old time and industrial feel. it is done in a tan color to look like old paper and show the richness of its history.
The image is to represent the sunrise over and Application Mountains where Nanty Glo is located and to represent the dawning of a new day and a bright future. The orange, purple and red are to represent the beautiful autumn season they have there. The green represents the beauty of those mountains during the spring and summer months. This trademark shows how Nanty Glo has succeeded in the past and how it will continue in the future.
Project 2 Packaging Design
This project was to create a brand and label for a company, and this is a retro-futurism theme of the 1960s and based after a soda company in the mid-west called Fitz’s. The background si semi desaturated color palate to continue with the retro theme. The black shadow outline helps it appear more 3D and not flat.
The tan circle goes with the retro color pallet and is set off with a white and tan ring to give it more of a 3D look. it could also represent the sun.
The two moons are set slightly behind the rings (sun) to hold important information and give it a space look. There are small shadows no the moon to make it look more like a moon and not just a circle. The soda bottle has thrusters and a window as well as clouds of smoke to give the appearance of motion and make it more like a rocket flying past the sun.
Project 3 Olympic Trademark Design
This project was to redesign an Olympics logo for the Winter Olympics of 2022 in Sion, Switzerland.
The dark blue colored typeface represents the winter season. The two blue triangles represent the look of the cold Swiss Alps Monutate above Sion, the runners on the skies and bobsled blades, and the angles also represent the ski jumps. The two red stars on top of these mountains are also seen on Sion’s coat of arms and they represent the two famous landmarks in Sion, the Basilique de Valere, and the Chateau de Tourbillon.
The red fan in the middle is a representation of the Swiss flag which has a red background and a white cross. This cross is open, as the Olympics ar open to all the world. The Curvse of blades of the fan represents different movements of the winter sports. The turns of figure skating, the slaom curves of skiing and snowboarding an the bottoms of the ice hockey sticks
Project 4: Your Design Trademark
This project was to create my own logo for my design company that focuses on creating and printing the logo and trademark on items that can promote and enhance the product or message.
The Fiala Studios trademark is based on the Fiala name, which is Czechoslovakian and means violet. The color violet stands for imagination and purple inspires us to look at our inmost self. It is often associated with royalty and luxury. Its mystery and magic spark creative ideas. it uses a modern symmetrical violet with four layers.
The typeface needed to be Bold, bright, and easy to read. Orange was chosen because it contrasts with the violet color of the flower, and needed to be bright and attractive to catch the audience’s eye. The bottom typeface "Studios” is smaller and the color is dark grey which is a color of neutrality, Stable and reliable, and calming. The flower is placed beside the typeface to give it a more balanced look.
